Asianconnect88 has decided to end its business relationship with 9Wickets in light of an investigation which the Financial Times has conducted. This website (connected to Betfair) has been found responsible for offering Indian and U.S. players access to their services.
In the majority of India, gambling is a violation of the country’s law. However, no law exists to forbid people from partaking in this illegal pastime. Meanwhile, only New Jersey has authorized access to Betfair services.
According to the report by the Financial Times, it was through Asianconnect88 that a 9Wickets account could be opened. The former offered exchange services that Betfair offers. Supposedly, avoiding identity checks was possible when opening an account.
A Betfair spokesperson claimed that the operator works with a carefully selected group of B2B partners. All of these have licenses in multiple jurisdictions, and they all must perform KYC (Know Your Client) procedures on their customers.
To this situation, Betfair has replied that they forbid any partners hailing from an illegal region. In addition, the company has said that all contracts contain a list of the said partners. Beyond that, Betfair could provide no answer as to whether it had procured U.S. or Indian customer data through 9Wickets.
